Tricked into setting your iPhone back to 1970? Apple has a fix coming

An unfortunate iPhone rumor led some users to set the system date on their devices to 1970 in search of an Easter egg — resulting in a smartphone that doesn't work at all.

Apple has acknowledged the issue and says it will push out an update to fix affected devices.

The rumor, which gained steam on 4Chan, was that users could unlock an Easter egg from Apple that would display the company's classic logo or other retro designs if they set the system date on their iPhones back to 1970

While Apple does sometimes include hidden surprises in its products, this particular rumor was not only untrue but malicious. If the system date was set to 1970 on 64-bit iOS devices (iPhone 5S or later, as well as some iPads), users ended up with a bricked devices. Read more...
