Google is working fast and furiously on its next big step to take on ride-hailing app Uber.
The technology giant, under parent Alphabet, is building a new service that connects commuters for the potential of carpooling, The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday via an anonymous source familiar with the matter.
The service will be a part the Google-owned Waze app, which currently provides drivers with driving directions and community-sourced traffic information. It is expected to be available in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area this fall.
