New York grinds to a halt as city braces for up to 30 inches of snow

New York City came to a standstill on Saturday afternoon, after a snowstorm walloping the East Coast dumped more than 16 inches of snow on the city, with at least another foot expected to come before the storm is over.

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a travel ban for all non-emergency vehicles in the city after 2:30 pm. Buses were halted and sone subway lines were shut down. At the very least, the travel ban would be in place until midnight, de Blasio told the media during a press briefing on Saturday afternoon.

If snowfall in the city reaches more than 20 inches, which is likely to happen, the storm will be one of the five biggest New York has ever seen. The most recent forecast from the National Weather Service indicates that the city could see up to 30 inches of snow. Read more...
